Tuition & Fees
If you plan to come to the U.S. on an F-1 student visa, having enough money is very important. At the ELTI, we do our best to be open with you about how much studying and living in the Charlotte area will cost.
One of the requirements you must meet before we give you an I-20 is to show that you have enough money to support you and any dependents during your time in the U.S. We have determined that $37,500 is a fair estimate of what you could reasonably expect to pay for your studies and other expenses over the course of an academic year (or two semesters). Therefore, this is the amount that you need to demonstrate that you have available before we will give you an I-20. You do not need to pay $37,500 to the ELTI. If you have any dependents coming to the U.S. with you (a spouse and any children under the age of 21), the amount will be higher.
The ELTI does not have different pricing for in-state residents or other categories. Everyone pays the same price for tuition and fees. Your living expenses will vary depending on your lifestyle and budget. The only payment plan accepted by the ELTI is the official UNC Charlotte plan. It is your responsibility to sign up for the payment plan before any posted deadlines. If you cannot pay on time, you will be asked to leave the program.
Here are some important words that you should understand because we use them a lot when talking about the cost of your studies at the ELTI:
Tuition is what you pay for your academic coursework and is set by the ELTI. The tuition does not change from year to year.
Fees are what you pay for access to university facilities and resources such as the recreation center, the library, sporting events, and the light rail. These are set by UNC Charlotte and are subject to change from year to year.
All ELTI students regardless of full- or part-time enrollment must pay both tuition and fees.
IMPORTANT: Parking, textbooks, meals, accommodation, health insurance, and other costs associated with life in Charlotte are not included in the tuition and fees. These are separate costs that you need to pay. These will change depending on your lifestyle and budget.
For current information about campus housing and meals rates, please visit the Housing and Residence Life website and the Auxiliary Services website .
For current information about the cost of health insurance, which is required for all ELTI students, please visit the Student Health website . While we strongly recommend the UNC Charlotte plan, students can provide proof of their own insurance as long as it meets the university’s health insurance requirements.

Additional Information
Part-time Study
Students who are not in the U.S. on student visas (which require full-time study) may enroll in one or two of the three daily classes. Contact the ELTI (elti@charlotte.edu) if you have questions about your eligibility.
Payment
Tuition and fees are due upon arrival and should be paid by the deadlines established by the ELTI. Students who sign up for the UNC Charlotte payment plan must make payments by the deadlines established by UNC Charlotte. Students who do not pay by the established deadlines will be asked to leave the ELTI.
Sponsored Students
Sponsoring agencies must provide an official letter of sponsorship covering the period of enrollment. Students must have this sponsorship at the beginning of the term of study. If proof of sponsorship is not provided, students will need to pay their tuition and fees and be refunded later, once the sponsoring agency has provided proof of sponsorship.
