ELTI Deferral Policy

The ELTI defines a deferral as a deferral of admission. This is when a new student needs to change their original admission date for various reasons, including visa denial and other personal circumstances. Students who need to defer their admission should follow the guidance listed below.

  1. Students who request a deferral must fill out the ELTI Deferral Request Form. This is emailed to students by ELTI staff. The link is not publicly available.
  2. Students can request one free deferral per application. A new ELTI application fee must be paid for each additional deferral request.
  3. Students do not need to submit a new ELTI application for each deferral request if it has been less than one calendar year since the initial application.
  4. Students who request a deferral more than one calendar year from their original application date must submit a new ELTI application and pay a new ELTI application fee.
  5. Students who have not paid the I-901 fee will have their deferral request denied. The request may be reconsidered once the fee has been paid.
  6. Currently, the ELTI does not limit the number of deferrals a student may request. However, students requesting a deferral because of visa denial should know that the chances of being granted a visa after even one denial are low. After repeated denials, a student’s chances of getting a visa are highly unlikely.
